AI face search for event photos: how guests find their pictures with a selfie

What AI face search is, how selfie photo search works at weddings and events, and what to tell guests about privacy.

Every large event ends with the same question: "Where are my photos?" The photographer has thousands of pictures, and each guest wants the ten or twenty they are in. Scrolling through everything is slow, and most people give up.

AI face search answers the question in one step. The guest takes a selfie, and the gallery shows the photos they appear in.

What is AI face search?

Face search compares one face with the faces in a set of photos and returns the photos that match. In a ShareXtra gallery, the guest's selfie is the search. There is nothing to type and no names to tag.

What the guest does

  1. Scan the QR code at the venue, or open the gallery link.
  2. Take a selfie. The camera opens in the browser. One clear photo of the face is enough.
  3. See the matches. The photos they appear in show up as their own set.
  4. Download and share. They save the ones they like straight to their phone.

It runs in the phone browser. Guests do not install an app and do not create an account.

It works while the event is still going

Each photo is prepared for search as it is uploaded. So if the photographer is sending photos live from the camera, a guest can search during the event and search again later when more photos have arrived.

This also means it works for large events. The gallery can keep growing through the day.

Tips for better matches

  • Ask guests to take the selfie in good light, facing the camera.
  • Remove sunglasses or a mask for the selfie.
  • If someone gets very few results early in the event, tell them to try again later, when more photos are uploaded.

What about privacy?

Guests often ask who can see their photos. Face search returns the photos that match the guest's own selfie. Whether the full gallery is also open to them is the organiser's choice when sharing it.

You can also protect the gallery with a password and an expiry date, and switch the link off after the event.

Where face search helps most

  • Weddings. Hundreds of guests across several functions, each looking for their own moments.
  • Conferences and corporate events. Attendees get their photos without the organiser sending anything one by one.
  • College fests and sports days. Students find themselves in crowd and stage photos.
  • Company offsites. Every employee collects their own pictures privately.

How to add it to your next event

Create a gallery, upload the photos (or connect the camera for live upload), and place the gallery QR code at the venue. Guests do the rest.
